EMALAHLENI – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it is planning to stage a march this week Thursday against nepotism, corruption and lack of service delivery at the embattled eMalahleni municipality.
EFF’s Collen Sedibe said that the party has mobilised its members across the Nkangala region to assemble at eMalahleni to make their voice heard against the alleged corruption involving top ANC officials on the Traffic officers programme. “We want all these corrupt ANC officials involved in the alleged scandal to be charged and prosecuted,” Sedibe said.
It has been revealed that four members of the Mayoral Committee, one official who is currently employed in the Mayor’s Office and MEC Lindiwe Ntshalintshali have been instrumental in placing their family members and relatives on a list for the Traffic Officer’s Course at the municipality. The officers are now employed by the eMalahleni local municipality Directorate of Community Services.
It is alleged that the training opportunity was never made public knowledge thus highly disadvantaging the community of eMalahleni. It was also revealed that the MEC of Arts and Culture, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali’s son, Mbuli Sthembiso’s and nephew, Sizwe Mabona’s names appear on the list as candidates and have completed the course.
“We are not going to allow nepotism and corruption to happen under our watch, we are indeed going to tell the mayor that if he is not going to do something with the councillors who put their families and relatives in the list of the Traffic officers programme, the EFF will make sure they are dealt with,” he said.
“Unemployed youth from previously disadvantaged communities should have benefited from the programme but because of corruption, they were denied the opportunity. Corruption affects everyone and it hinders the delivery of services to the people and as EFF we cannot keep quiet,” he concluded.
