It was an exciting day at Sizuzile Primary School where Built It Botleng had made an amazing sponsorship to the school.
Built It Botleng took it upon them to show their gratitude to the community of Botleng Delmas by donating to the school masks, pencil cases, key holders, caps and sanitary pads. The manager of Build It Bolteng states that, “Since we have been based in Botleng we’ve seen that some of the primary students can’t afford sanitary pads, which may hinder them form coming to school and also educating students about the stages of puberty,” Built It said it in a media statement.
The Build It aims to make all the students boys and girls have an understanding that menstruation is normal and it should be something that we all open to talk about. They’ve also built a school hall since the school never had one. With different family backgrounds come different financial problems within the students’ families and not all of students can afford sanitary pads and make it difficult for them to come to school. Build It Botleng stated that menstruation shouldn’t be something that stops students from coming to school and being pro-active as kids.
This is only the first phase of their project and they are more than excited to be going on to their next phase. The next phase for them would be secondary schools around Botleng. Zanele Masango, the organiser of the events from Build It, Botleng stated that. “The purpose of the event was to show gratitude to the community of Botleng and the teachers for the support they have been giving,” she said. The school was very grateful and appreciative for the opportunity that Build It saw the needs that they had and took it upon themselves to make a change and educate their students about periods and pads. They wish for more opportunities like these. Build It left everyone with smiles on their faces, knowing that they’ve made a difference in the students’ lives.
