EMALAHLENI– Mnisi family demands justice to be served for their 23-year-old daughter, Karabo Mnisi, who was allegedly burned by her boyfriend, Khuliselo Nonyana, on 21 December 2019.
The tragic incident happened while Karabo was staying with her boyfriend, Khuliselo, in their shack at Coronation in Emalahleni. On 20 December 2019, Karabo apparently asked Khuliselo if she could visit her family to see her 3-year-old daughter at Siyanqoba. Khuliselo seemed to be not pleased with Karabo’s request, which might have led him ending up burning her using paraffin.
The police are still in search for Khuliselo since he disappeared last year December.
Karabo’s mother, Daisy Mnisi, confirmed that Karabo was staying with her boyfriend, Khuliselo, in eMalahleni’s Coronation area and that they had been dating for three months. “The previous day before she was nearly killed by her boyfriend, Karabo called to tell me that she was coming home to visit us and her daughter she hadn’t seen for some time, but unfortunately Khuliselo denied her to come visit us in Siyanqoba,” said Mnisi.
Khuliselo, after seeing that he had burned Karabo, allegedly ran off and it was the neighbours who rushed to assist Karabo after hearing her crying for help. Relaying a story, Karabo said that she was locked in the house with her clothes poured with paraffin and the house was set alight. “I was left to die in the house,” Karabo said.
Karabo was re-admitted to hospital on 27 April due to the internal bleeding caused by the burning skin. “I am in deep pain for my daughter because the police last talked about this case in December last year. No arrest has been made yet. In hospital where she was placed they tried helping her but still her wounds are not healing. I am an unemployed mother, I ended up seeking for help writing on Facebook asking for money donation to help Karabo with medical treatment,” Mnisi said.
Social media users reacted with different views when they saw the post saying that Karabo should be treated free from public hospital and her boyfriend should be placed in jail. Others were saying that Karabo would use her burns to score money from the government. Some commented said “Karabo’s should be using her burning as a way to score money from government.
