MPUMALANGA – ActionSA in Mpumalanga has decided not to celebrate May Day due to rising unemployment in the province. The party stated in a release that the scourge of joblessness has inflicted a profound and enduring injustice upon residents. “Despite Mpumalanga’s abundant natural resources and promising economic sectors, such as mining and agriculture, it is disheartening to note that while the national employment figure saw an increase from 15.8 million to 16.7 million in Q3 2023,” the statement read. The statement further asserted that ActionSA stands firm in its decision to denounce the observance of Workers’ Day amidst the persistent and debilitating unemployment crisis gripping our province. “Until meaningful progress is made towards resolving the unemployment crisis in Mpumalanga, Workers’ Day will serve as a solemn reminder of the challenges we face in securing a future of dignified work for all residents of our province.”
