EMALAHLENI – In a tragic turn of events, a 26-year-old woman named Ziyanda Mkhomazi has been accused of murdering her boyfriend, Lungile Khumalo (36), in Emalahleni. The incident occurred on Saturday, February 17, at KwaGuqa extension 10.
According to reports, a heated argument between the couple escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Khumalo sustaining multiple stab wounds to his upper body.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Khumalo succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss. Mkhomazi appeared before the Emalahleni magistrate court on Tuesday, February 19, facing charges of murder.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli said, “ According to a report, there was a scuffle between a male and a female. It is further indicated that during the said fight, the male person was stabbed, allegedly by his female companion. Thereafter, he was taken to hospital by a family member.”
“On the said Saturday, around 23h30, the Police in Vosman received a call from the hospital about a patient who succumbed to injuries after being brought in for medical treatment. Upon arrival, members of the Police observed that the victim had some stab wounds on the upper body.” Col Mdhluli explained.
“The victim died later in hospital after succumbing to his injuries. A case of murder was opened with police and after investigations, the suspect was traced and arrested.” he added.
The murder case against Mkhomazi has been postponed to 14 May for further investigations after she abandoned her bail application.
The community is left in shock and grief over this senseless act of violence.
A community member who wished to remain anonymous said, “We are still in shocked as a community in KwaGuqa, that such a young girl to be bravely and kill a man”
“We are still in a dark as a community. We don’t know what really happened because the family of the guy I heard that asked to be given some privacy. It is sad and hard for them too.” she added.
The Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Lt. General Daphney Manamela has strongly condemned the incident. “This incident is more of Domestic Violence in nature and we are very much concerned about these series of intolerance amongst people in some kind of relationships. We plead with people to be civil when addressing issues and not to resort to violence.”
