EMALAHLENI – Residents in Emalahleni have voiced their distress over the continuous supply of brownish water flowing from their taps.
The residents, alarmed by the potential health hazards posed by the brownish water, have raised their apprehensions regarding its safety. The situation has escalated to the point where some individuals have reported health issues they believe are linked to consuming this tainted water.
In response to previous water supply challenges faced by the community, Executive Mayor Cllr Leah Mabuza had assured residents of ongoing efforts to enhance water provision and quality control measures.
Despite these assurances, concerns persist among residents about the safety of the water they are receiving.
Speaking with the Highveld Chronicle, Nomsa Nkosi from Hlalanikahle said, “ We are worried as a community because not so long ago we have been struggling to get water. Now we are being supplied with water that is dirty or brownish.”
Another concerned resident, who wished to remain anonymous said, “It was confirmed that the water not healthy. Some households they have been complaining about their children having a running stomach. They suspect a diarrhea and other diseases.”
“This municipality is failing us. We are tired as residents of complaining about water.” he added.
The paper sought a comment from the municipality but was unsuccessful.
