– Residents of Siyanqoba in Emalahleni were filled with joy and gratitude as they received an early Christmas gift in the form of 700 RDP houses.
This gesture was part of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s build-up initiative Presidential Imbizo, aimed at addressing housing challenges in South Africa.
On Wednesday, March 6, the beneficiaries of Siyanqoba were elated to finally have a place to call home, thanks to the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for its citizens.
The handed over was organised by the Mpumalanga department of Human Settlement and was attended by Nkangala District Executive Mayor Councillor Thomas Ngwenya, who represented the MEC for Human Settlement, Speedy Mashilo.
A 74 years Gogo Gladys Mapule who could not hold back her tears after so many years said, “ I am so grateful to receive my title deed today, this document means a lot to me and my family. I want to thank government for giving me the assurance that I am the rightful owner of this house.”
She further stated that the dignity of her family has been restored, even if she is no more the house will remain their home.
Another beneficiary, gogo Sarah Nkosi (72) who is a person living with disability thanked government for making her dream come true to have a legal documents which confirms her ownership of the house. “I am so relieved to finally receive my own title deed, no one will come and unlawfully claim my house.”
“Now you can approach banks to make loans and start a business to make a living, but do not give your title deeds to loan shakes” said Cllr. Ngwenya.
He assured beneficiaries who are still waiting for their title deeds that government is working hard to ensure that all housing beneficiaries receive their title deeds.
