On Sunday, March 3, a tragic incident occurred in Ebhudzini, Ackerville, Emalahleni, where a 67-year-old grandmother, Caroline Khoza, lost her life after being shot. The police are still in pursuit of the suspects who are believed to be responsible for this heinous crime. According to reports, Khoza was found lying in a pool of blood next to a tuckshop, after being shot.
Witbank police spokesperson Captain Elizabeth Hlathi said, “The horrific incident happened at about 09h40 when police were called to the scene and found the body of the victim laying on the ground in the yard next to a tuckshop.”
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was at the tuckshop when she was struck by the stray bullet that eventually took her life.” she explained.
“The victim was declared dead by paramedics on the scene. No one has been arrested for the tragic death of Gogo Khoza. We are still looking for the suspects.” she added.
The family of Khoza is calling for justice for their loved one. They have described Khoza as a kind and loving woman who did not deserve to meet such a violent end.
Speaking with the Highveld Chronicle a family member who wished to remain anonymous said, “We are very saddened by this situation. We still don’t know why they killed her.”
“My grandmother was full of life and loved people. She did not decide to die like. All we want as a family is for justice to be served.” she expressed.
“She was the pillar of the family. She was looking after all of us including our children. We don’t feel safe anymore. We don’t know as a family, who will be a next target.” she added.
“She was a people ‘s person. She loved her family and community. She did not decide to die like this. We don’t know if we will ever recover from this.” she said.
