Middelburg – The Mpumalanga Action Movement (MAM) has initiated a campaign to distribute 500 blankets to various communities around Middelburg in commemoration of Mandela month.
As the nation honors the legacy of Nelson Mandela throughout the entire month, this presents an opportunity for individuals to respond to the call for action and realize their capacity to effect change in the world around them.
On Saturday, 27 July, 150 blankets were delivered to elderly residents of Malope Village in Mhluzi by the local community organization, Batho Ba Middelburg ke Batho (BMB).
This charitable contribution was made possible through the collaboration of MAM and its partners Barberry Group, a transportation and logistics company, and Corobrick, a local brick manufacturer.

Khutsho Masemola, the chairperson of MAM, articulated their involvement in this compassionate gesture that touched the hearts of the elderly individuals. “As MAM, we affirm our solidarity with BMB, one of the community organizations we are actively engaged with, to demonstrate our affection and gratitude during the month dedicated to honoring one of the revered elders who championed freedom, Nelson Mandela,” he expressed.
“We recognize the invaluable role you play in society by guiding the younger generation. You are a wellspring of knowledge and wisdom, preserving our values, culture, and traditions.”

Sibonelo Masondo from Barberry Group conveyed their responsiveness to the request from stakeholders to provide assistance by donating the blankets. “This underscores our dedication to extending aid whenever we are called upon to do so. Our company’s focus is not solely on financial gains, but on making a positive impact in the lives of people within the communities we serve.”

Vincent Gwazela, the chairperson of BMB, emphasized that the organization could not overlook the significance of the elderly individuals during Mandela month. “You lived through the era of Mandela and witnessed the struggle against apartheid that he led,” he remarked.
“These blankets serve as tokens of appreciation, expressing gratitude for nurturing us, providing for us, and safeguarding us during challenging times.”
MAM’s initiative to donate blankets is anticipated to extend to areas such as Hendrina, Rockdale, and the farms around Middelburg.
