DELMAS – The Mpumalanga Informal Economy Development Forum, in partnership with Victor Khanye Local Municipality and Nedbank, hosted financial literacy training for the residents of Victor Khanye Local Municipality on July 24, 2024, at the Botleng Extension 3 hall. The training aimed to provide individuals with basic financial education and empower them to make informed decisions about managing their money. The workshop encouraged disciplined financial planning, both personally and for businesses, to help generate more profit.

Gert Adam, the Nedbank Financial Education facilitator, elaborated on the workshop. “The workshop was free of charge; no payment was required from the attendees. Everyone who participated received a certificate of attendance and a booklet covering financial health and budgeting, which will aid in improving their financial well-being,” he said. “We encourage people to start their businesses even without initial funds,” he added.

Vincent “Mshekesheke” Soni,  a local coordinator commented on the session. “I learned how entrepreneurs can manage their business finances, sustain their businesses, and prioritise effectively,” he said.

Karabo Mtshweni, a hairdresser, shared her insights from the workshop. “As a hairdresser, I have learned that I should not spend my profits recklessly but rather save for rainy days, ensuring that my business remains prosperous,” she explained.
