NKANGALA – The mayor of Nkangala District Municipality has initiated a campaign against the prevalence of potholes within the region. During the delivery of the State of the District Address (SODA) on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Mayor Ngwenya declared that the district will persist in its efforts until it acquires a complete fleet of yellow vehicles dedicated to the repair and upkeep of roads in the area.
He announced that the district has allocated R4.5 million to further aid local municipalities in the rehabilitation and patching of potholes using the District Jet Patcher machine. “As part of its initiative to provide assistance to municipalities facing challenges within the district, a Municipal Support Infrastructure Unit has been established with a Jet Patcher machine for pothole repair,” he explained.
He also highlighted the positive impact of this initiative on the DR JS Moroka, Thembisile Hani, Emalahleni, and Steve Tshwete municipalities. Ngwenya emphasized that the accessibility of a well-maintained road infrastructure network is crucial, as it not only attracts investments but also instills hope among the populace. “The district is currently in the process of procuring additional yellow fleet equipment to bolster this initiative,” he added.
