MPUMALANGA – The Ndebele indoni king and queen are seeking support to secure victory in the upcoming National Indoni Program scheduled for December in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The Ndebele kingdom ceremoniously appointed their Indoni king and queen in June 28, 2024 at Nkosini following an enriching cultural retreat.
Khulekani Skhosana (20) and Buhle Masango (21) were crowned among 32 other that participated in the program.
Khulekani Sbusiso Skhosana from Kwadlaulale, Sehlakwane expressed his excitement about being crowned king. “It feels good to represent the Ndebele kingdom because am able to learn about other cultures more and gain leadership skills for representing myself as the Ndebele king,” said Skhosana.
He went on to say that he is very confident.diverse and takes initiative when it comes to culture and that being apart of indoni it’s very good and exceptional.
“I want my name to be known for generations to come, I am going to be a traditional social media influencer and a cultural activist towards the Ndebele kingdom.”
Skhosana said he wanted to be different from his peers and wanted to know more about his culture isindebele and all culture in general as South Africa has diversity that is why he participated in the Ndoni program.
Buhle Bafunani Masango (21) from eMpumelelweni in KwaMhlanga said she thrilled and honored to have been selected as the Indoni Ndebele Queen to represent the Kingdom as a finalist at the prestigious Indoni Mr and Ms Cultural South Africa.
“I am overflowing with joy and gratitude for this incredible opportunity to showcase our rich Ndebele culture on a national stage. As a proud ambassador,” she said.
She further promised to embody the essence of our heritage and share it with the world. “My love for my culture, history, and heritage is deeply rooted in my being, stemming from my ancestral lineage. As a proud praise poet of Ndabezitha uMagodongo wakoMtshabi, I have a profound connection to my roots. My passion for our cultural heritage burns bright, and I am dedicated to sharing our stories, traditions, and values with the world.”
Masango has been an active member of the Ndoni organization since 2019, she has had the privilege of immersing herself in the rich cultural practices and learning from her elders.
Masango said that beyond her role as Indoni Ndebele Queen, her vision is to continually grow and develop myself in all aspects of life, particularly academically she aspire to be a well-rounded individual, equipped with knowledge and skills that will enable her to make a meaningful impact in her community and beyond.
Driven by two key factors her deep-seated cultural passion and her fascination with the Indoni Ndebele cultural camp unique focus on virginity. Masango has always been enamored with rich cultural heritage and the importance of preserving traditions.
Sibongile Mahlangu a champion of indoni ndebele kingdom expressed her happiness about the two crowned Mr and Mrs Ndoni saying that they met all the requirements and that they are behind the
them.
“They won because they wore the full traditional attire, knew they culture and background, answered questions properly, knew how to dance (Ukugida) and sing (ukuvuma) and most importantly they are virgins and have confidence,” said Mahlangu.
