DELMAS – The Victor Khanye Local Municipality (VKLM) had successfully hosted the Mayor’s Golf Day, an initiative spearheaded by Executive Mayor KV Buda to raise funds for financial bursaries for matriculants in need. There were fears of proceeding with the event following a community protest from locals who demanded water and questioned the municipality’s priorities in hosting the event while facing serious water challenges. The event brought together various stakeholders, including Exxaro Leeuwpan, Tshipi-Noto Funeral Home, Bokamoso Lodge, BSA Events, Botleng Golf, Fresh Heroes, NTT Toyota Delmas, ZA Props, Pitsana Mills, Derrick Ngubane, Old Mutual, the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR), Linda ka Zwane Foundation, and Coca-Cola, all united by a shared commitment to education.
With strong support from individuals and businesses, the event successfully achieved its goal of raising funds to help the municipality support local learners in starting their tertiary education journey. Executive Mayor KV Buda and Speaker HM Ngoma of the Victor Khanye Local Municipality actively participated in the golf tournament, symbolising their dedication to this vital cause.
Mayor Buda emphasised the significance of the fundraiser in uplifting the community. “Every January, the Office of the Mayor helps students who cannot afford to register for tertiary education. This fundraiser aims to provide financial support for these students, especially as the municipality faces financial challenges,” he explained.
Prizes were awarded to the top four winning pairs of golfers. In fourth place were Lucky and Job, followed by Lambert and Thami in third. Tshepo and David claimed second place, while Gadwin and Phenyo from Pretoria secured the top spot.
