eMalahleni – The Emalahleni municipality, in collaboration with the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), successfully launched the Water Conservation, Sanitation Hygiene, and Energy Saving Awareness campaign on November 21, 2024

The campaign started at Thubelihle Stadium in Ga-Nala (Kriel) and concluded at KG Mall in KwaGuqa, with the aim of educating communities on conserving water, improving sanitation hygiene, and adopting energy-efficient practices.

Key municipal leaders, including mayor Vusi Nhlapho, Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Technical Services, Busi Hlumbane, MMC for Environmental and Waste Management Nombuso Mokwana, and local ward councillors showed their commitment to the initiative by attending and engaging with the community.

The mayor emphasised the importance of maintaining proper sanitation, urging the community to take care of the sewer systems and avoid blockages caused by improper waste disposal.

He also called on everyone to work together to keep the community clean and help maintain a healthy environment.

In her address, MMC Hlumbane highlighted the significance of reporting water leaks promptly.

She encouraged residents to take responsibility for spotting and reporting leaks. “This small action can make a big difference in conserving water and ensuring sustainable access for all,” she said.

The campaign included interactive activities, where community members participated actively and won exciting prizes.

DWS officials educated the public on water-saving techniques and the importance of responsible water management.

The municipality’s technical services department also played an essential role in engaging with the public on energy-saving practices and water conservation strategies.

The municipality expressed its sincere thanks to the communities of Ga-Nala, Thubelihle, and KwaGuqa for their enthusiasm and support.

The success of this campaign highlights the power of collective action in building a sustainable and thriving future for Emalahleni.
