MIDDELBURG – The MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, Nompumelelo Hlophe, expressed her satisfaction with the state of readiness at Ekwazini Secondary School in Mhluzi, Middelburg.
The MEC visited the school on Wednesday morning to assess its preparedness for the 2025 academic year.
Hlophe told Highveld Chronicle on the sidelines of the visit that the initiative aims to encourage stakeholders to work towards creating a conducive learning environment at schools.
“The purpose of the school readiness initiative is to provide the necessary support to SGBs in the province, parents, and our school management team to ensure the academic year begins without any disruptions,” said Hlophe.
The department donated 20 pairs of school shoes and sanitary towels to learners. Additionally, garden tools and smart boxes were handed over to the school.
The school achieved a 93.5% pass rate for the matric class of 2024, reflecting a 2.2% improvement from the 90.9% achieved in 2023.
“We are happy about the pass rate of 93.5% for this school. It doesn’t end here; we want to work very closely with the school to ensure they achieve a 100% pass rate this year,” said Hlophe.
