SECUNDA – In an impressive display of endurance and speed, Thokozile Mokena (34), known as Lulu, claimed third place in the Sasol 4-in-1 Marathon, completing the course in an impressive 49 minutes and 23 seconds.
The Sasol 4-in-1 Marathon, held at the Sasol Recreation Club on Saturday, February 15, attracted runners from across the country, all vying for top honours in the 45th Sasol Secunda Marathon.
This year’s event was themed “Pushing Boundaries and Transcending Limitations,” a fitting motto for the determined athletes who took part.
“The Sasol Marathon is one of my favourite races, and it’s always my first race of the year. What inspires me is that every time I participate, I get an opportunity to experience the podium. After a two-year break due to a plantar heel injury, this win was a surprise even to me. I went into the race to test my heel with only 35 days of training, but my experience and relaxed mindset worked to my advantage. I always move with three keys: consistency, discipline, and finishing what I started, which is why I’m still working on my fitness level and mental health after a long break,” said Mokena.
As a qualifier for the prestigious Comrades and Two Oceans marathons, the Sasol Secunda Marathon drew a talented field of elite and social runners. Despite the stiff competition, Mokena’s outstanding performance earned her a well-deserved spot on the podium.
