DELMAS – A powerful prayer session against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBV+F) was held at the Desire of All Nations Ministries on Thursday, 13 March 2025. The session, attended by esteemed figures including Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature Speaker Lindi Masina, MEC for Sports, Culture and Recreation Leah Mabuza, Chief Whip Eva Makhabane, and Victor Khanye Local Municipality (VKLM) Speaker Henry Ngoma, aimed to unite the community against this crisis.

Pastor Moropa led the prayer, setting the tone for a collective stance against GBV+F. Speaker Lindi Masina emphasised the importance of joint action, stating, “GBV affects everyone, and prayer for strength and guidance is crucial in combating this issue. Leaders expressed hope that districts and municipalities would establish support systems to address GBV+F,” said Masina.

The prayer session formed part of the Taking the Legislature to the People (TLP) programme, currently ongoing at the Victor Khanye Local Municipality. MEC for Sports, Culture and Recreation, Leah Mabuza, highlighted “the purpose of establishing the GBV Council, which is to provide a platform for men, women, and children to voice their frustrations,” she said.

Mabuza went on to commend the leadership of Premier Mandla Ndlovu for ensuring that Mpumalanga becomes one of the leading provinces to establish the GBV Council, following the proclamation by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the recent State of the Nation Address.

The prayer session brought together the VKLM Christian community in one house, all praying for what Speaker Masina labelled as a pandemic.
