SIYABUSWA – The Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality has taken an initiative aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness.

On Friday, April 11, 2025, the municipal waste management team partnered with Aquelle Khula Cleanup, St John Church, and the Number43 Trelawney Park KwaMagogo Foundation to clean the streets of Siyabuswa in Ward 5.

The cleanup team consisted of officials from both Dr JS Moroka and Nkangala District municipalities, members of Siyabuswa Arts and Lifestyle, the Department of Health, St John Church, and members of the local community.

The group gathered at St John Church on Bongimfundo Street for a briefing before rolling up their sleeves and proceeding to the day’s activities. These included clearing three identified illegal dumping sites, picking up litter, raising awareness about the importance of a clean environment, and installing “No Dumping” boards.

Mayor Nomsa Mtsweni, accompanied by members of her mayoral committee and councillors, urged residents and various stakeholders to demonstrate solidarity and civic pride by actively participating in similar cleanup campaigns. She also emphasised the importance of responsible waste disposal.

“We encourage the community to stop littering and to work together to help keep our community clean,” said the Mayor.

Gladson Songelwa, Chairperson of Aquelle Khula Cleanup, provided a brief history of the campaign, noting that it is more than just a cleanup drive — it is about transforming attitudes toward cleanliness and uplifting communities.
