EMALAHLENI – Overcrowding at Siyanqoba Senior Secondary School will now be eased following the delivery of five mobile classrooms by Anglo Inyosi Coal Community Trust (AICCT).

The mobile classrooms, along with 200 desks and chairs valued at R2 million, were officially handed over to the school on Thursday, May 16, 2025.

The donation, regarded as a major boost for education in the Phola region, aims to address the pressing issue of overcrowding that has long affected schools in the rapidly growing Siyanqoba area.

The celebratory handover was attended by enthusiastic learners, School Governing Body (SGB) members, representatives from the Mpumalanga Department of Education, and trustees of AICCT.

The no-fee school currently accommodates 554 learners in mobile classrooms. With limited infrastructure and no alternative schools in close proximity, learners often face logistical challenges, including long commutes, which disrupt consistent learning. The school has for years struggled with overcrowded classrooms that compromise both teaching and academic performance.

Responding to a broader call for support by the Mpumalanga Department of Education, AICCT’s intervention could not have come at a more critical time. The additional mobile classrooms and furniture will directly relieve congestion, creating a more dignified and conducive learning environment for both educators and learners.

“This partnership is a shining example of how collaboration between the private sector and government can bring lasting change to our communities,” said Department of Education representative Nhlanhla Manzini. “We are grateful to AICCT for their commitment to our learners’ future,” he added.

The school’s principal echoed these sentiments, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the contribution. “This is not just an investment in our school, but in the future of every learner who walks through our gates,” said Principal Ntiwane. The initiative reaffirms AICCT’s commitment to improving education and uplifting local communities through sustainable development. By helping to close the infrastructure gap, the Trust is not only improving immediate learning conditions but also laying the foundation for long-term academic success in Siyanqoba
