EMALAHLENI – In a resounding demonstration of solidarity and commitment to social justice, the Mayor of eMalahleni Local Municipality, Vusi Nhlapho, convened a comprehensive multi-stakeholder engagement session on Wednesday, 04 June 2025.

The initiative, held in collaboration with the Transversal and Youth Development Units, aimed to strengthen community safety networks and enhance support systems for vulnerable individuals.

The session brought together a broad spectrum of key role players, including the Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), the Rapid Response Task Team (RRTT), the National Intersectoral Task Team (NITC), the Victim Support Forum, South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Correctional Services (DCS), National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and several Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs).

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Nhlapho emphasised the urgency of joint efforts in addressing critical social issues such as substance abuse, gender-based violence, and victim support.

“We will fight substance abuse and reclaim the abandoned buildings. We will clean our streets and restore order,” said Mayor Nhlapho. “Working together with all our partners, we are determined to bring about lasting change in eMalahleni.”

The engagement served not only as a platform for dialogue but also as a strategic planning session. Stakeholders discussed aligning resources, improving coordination, and strengthening response mechanisms across sectors.

Key outcomes included renewed stakeholder commitments, plans for future joint interventions, and improved referral systems for victims and at-risk individuals.

This initiative forms part of the municipality’s broader commitment to social development and community safety, placing the well-being of residents at the forefront of its agenda. Mayor Nhlapho commended all partners involved, noting that through their continued efforts, the vision of a safer, more dignified eMalahleni can be realised.
