A 36-year-old male suspect who is facing the charges of murder had confessed and handed himself over to the police for killing an 86-year-old granny at Eden Park Old Age Home Witbank, Emalahleni on 31 January.

According to the reports, the 36-year-old murder suspect has been first reported hiding in Gauteng during the police search. Witbank police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall, said, “Witbank police detective services managed to arrest the 36-year-old male suspect in connection with the brutal killing of an 86-year-old woman on the evening of Sunday, 31 January at Eden Park old aged home in Witbank. The police investigation gathered all the evidence which is at their disposal and were searching for the suspect in Gauteng where he has been hiding.”

“As the investigating team closed in on the suspect he decided to hand himself in at this morning at Mondeor police station Gauteng. The suspect confessed to the police that he indeed killed the woman in her home at Eden park Witbank. The arrest follows after Witbank police attended to a murder scene on Sunday evening at house number 2 Fuchsia street park in Klipfontein, where the body was found in her room with multiple stabbed wounds on her back and neck. Her hands were tied behind her back, with a blue beanie inside her mouth and washing soap that was pored over her face,” he added.

The suspect took the deceased vehicle, a white Honda and her cell phone and fled the scene. The vehicle was later found abounded in Krugersdorp.

Witbank Station Commander, Brigadier Sifisi Cele said, “Hope the family can find peace now knowing that the murderer is now removed from the society and is behind bars,” Cele said.
