THEMBISILE HANI – The African National Congress (ANC) has reaffirmed its dominance in the Thembisile Hani Local Municipality after securing decisive victories in both Ward 18 and Ward 31 during by-elections held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

The ANC retained both wards with comfortable margins, while the newly formed Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party made a strong entry into local politics, securing second place in both contests. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) trailed in third position.

The ANC had an intense campaign leading up to the elections, closing off with a final push the day before voting. Among those at the forefront of the campaign was ANC NEC member and Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, who joined local leaders in rallying support.
