MEC for the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, visited Bongisimbi Comprehensive School at Ackerville on the reopening of schools, 15 February.
Public schools were temporarily closed by the department due to the ongoing cases of the Covid-19 pandemic. During her visit, MEC Ntshalintshali blessed Bongisimbi by donating new books for the library, netball kit and Wi-Fi that will soon be installed in the school.
Ntshalintshali also checked whether the school was adhering to all the Covid-19 regulations placed by the government to try and mitigate the spread of the virus such as sanitising, wearing of masks and social distancing.
Ntshalintshali said, “We have come to Bongisimbi Comprehensive school today to donate books, netball kit and the Wi-fi. Libraries should have more books. We are donating books because they’re key to knowledge. We provide Wi-Fi for learners to easily have access to internet which will make their schooling very easily.”
“Sometimes we come and make promises that we don’t fulfil and that is not good. But what is key being that, as the department at schools, we do have sporting activities, unfortunately with the Covid-19 regulations we are still not yet active but I think it will be part of our programme once everything has returned to normal,” she added. MEC Ntshalintshali also pleaded with the community of eMalahleni to stop vandalism and stealing of the school’s infrastructure.
