EMALAHLENI – The streets of eMalahleni CBD were a scene of unrest on Wednesday, April 02, 2025, as demonstrators gathered to demand the immediate removal of eMalahleni Municipality Speaker, Mduduzi Nkosi, also known as Mswati.
Led by concerned community members, the march took place in front of the municipal offices, where protesters delivered a memorandum of grievances, calling for Nkosi’s dismissal. The demonstrators, many carrying placards denouncing corruption, chanted slogans and vowed to continue their protests until their demands were met.
According to protest organiser Joseph Mtsweni, the demonstration was fuelled by serious allegations against Nkosi, including money laundering, undue interference in local businesses, and fostering divisions within the community.
“We can no longer sit back and watch as corruption destroys our municipality,” Mtsweni declared. “Nkosi has failed the people of eMalahleni, and we demand that the ANC in the province remove him from his position immediately.”
The memorandum submitted by the protesters outlines specific grievances and calls for urgent intervention by the ruling African National Congress (ANC). Demonstrators have issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the ANC’s Nkangala Region to respond to their demands.
Poppy Msiza from the ANC Regional Executive Committee received the memorandum and assured the protesters that the document would be forwarded to both the regional executive and secretarial committees for consideration.
This protest follows an earlier demonstration on the same day, where ANC members and local residents also voiced their dissatisfaction with Nkosi’s leadership, adding to the mounting pressure for his removal.
Despite repeated attempts, Nkosi was unavailable for comment at the time. Meanwhile, the ANC in Mpumalanga has yet to issue a formal response to the growing calls for his dismissal.
Protesters remain resolute, vowing to sustain their efforts until action is taken, signalling an ongoing push for accountability and clean governance in eMalahleni.
