Middelburg’s Christian radio, Chronicles Radio, is on mission to offer Christians a platform to preach the gospel of Christ without fear or favour.
“Above all,” said founder Apostle Sibusiso Simelane of Heaven Church in Rockdale, “We have a duty to make unbelievers disciples of Christ. We can only do this by living a life that is Christ-like, preach a true gospel of repentance and living righteously without compromising our Christian values and principles,” he said.
Apostle Simelane, also station manager, told the paper the radio was established in November last year and has more than 20 000 listeners located across different parts of the country. “We want to see ourselves reaching a wider audience including overseas countries, ten years to come,” he said. He said they play 100 percent gospel music and the programmes are Christian orientated because “the ultimate goal is to win souls for the Kingdom of God.”
He continued, “We broadcast using 60 percent English and the 40 is shared among Afrikaans and the Nguni languages. Our target is youth and young adults. It is a platform to remind one another as the Christian family how we should preserve our Christianity because He is coming back very soon.”
The former gospel presenter of the now defunct Greater Middelburg FM (GMFM) said he always had a passion for radio dating back in 2011. “I started at Capricorn FM in Limpopo then I went to work for another community radio in Lebowakgomo the following year. In 2013 I joined Moutse FM as a gospel presenter before joining GMFM in 2017,” he said.
He said his dream to establish a radio station was realised in 2019 when God finally answered my prayers. “My wife and I have been praying for God to open doors to have a radio station that is strictly for Christians, and indeed He answered our prayer,” he said. He said he acknowledges that being online presents a challenge for listeners who might not have data to tune in, however, he said they are still waiting for approval of their licence to be on Frequency Modulation (FM).
