KWAGGAFONTEIN – In a powerful display of faith, police in Kwaggafontein have turned to prayer, recognising that the battle against crime requires more than just firearms. “We are facing a spiritual warfare,” declared Kwaggafontein station commander Colonel Shongwe. “We need to fight from spirit to spirit.”
This resonant message set the tone for the Spiritual Crime Prevention Prayer held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, where local leaders, police officials, and community members gathered in solidarity to address the rising tide of gender-based violence and domestic violence in the area. Colonel Shongwe emphasised the critical role of spiritual support in combating crime, sharing the emotional weight the police bear after the recent loss of two officers and the illness of others in their ranks.
During the prayer gathering, which drew together various groups, including the South African Police Service, Correctional Services, traffic law enforcers, community members, the Community Police Forum (CPF), representatives from Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, and local pastors, participants united in their mission to strengthen the community’s fight against crime.
Victor Tshabangu, CPF chairperson, urged community members to show respect for the police officers dedicated to keeping everyone safe. “Let us all try to give the police the respect they deserve. Don’t be an irresponsible individual caught in the middle of crime,” he implored. He also encouraged attendees to pray for the South African Police Service.
The event highlighted a strong sense of unity among the Kwaggafontein community as they collectively work towards creating a safer environment for everyone. By combining spiritual strength with collaborative action, the community hopes to combat the rising levels of violence and create a more peaceful place to live.
