NKANGALA – Soccer fans across Nkangala are buzzing with excitement as they share their predictions and views ahead of the highly anticipated Soweto Derby. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are set to lock horns in the final of the Nedbank Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban today.

Xolani Sibiya, a die-hard Pirates supporter from Delmas, known as Dube, expressed confidence in his team’s chances. “We’ll be taking the Nedbank Cup for the third time in a row,” said Sibiya, boldly predicting a 3-1 win. He also praised coach Jose Riveiro, saying, “We believe he’ll indeed take us to the promised land.”

On the other hand, Penuel Mabena is backing Chiefs for a 2-1 win. “Chiefs 2, Pirates 1. This Nedbank Cup is ours,” he said with confidence.

Pirates go into the match with momentum, having beaten Chiefs 2-1 in a Betway Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium just a week ago.

Since the competition’s inception, The Phefeni Glamour Boys have lifted the cup 13 times, while The Sea Robbers have secured it 11 times — and are now aiming for a historic third consecutive title under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, following their victories in 2023 and 2024.

The last time Chiefs lifted the trophy was in 2013, with previous wins in 2000 and 2006.

These contrasting predictions are setting the stage for an electrifying showdown that will leave fans on the edge of their seats.

In Middelburg, Vusi Skhosana, another loyal Chiefs supporter, said his team will win 2-0, while Nonhlanhla Msiza from Tweefontein in Thembisile Hani Local Municipality predicted a convincing 4-0 win for Pirates.

The Soweto Derby is renowned for its intensity and drama, and this final promises to be no different. Both teams boast talented squads, and with high stakes, fans are bracing for a thrilling encounter.

Pirates are looking to make history, while Chiefs are eager to end their long trophy drought and register their first win against Pirates since coach Jose Riveiro took over.

As kick-off approaches, all eyes will be on Moses Mabhida Stadium. Will Pirates lift the Nedbank Cup for a third consecutive time, or will Chiefs claim their 14th title?

One thing is certain — the Soweto Derby is set to deliver drama, passion, and top-class football.
