SIYABUSWA – The Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality (DRJSMLM) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a recent job scam that has surfaced, preying on unsuspecting job seekers. The municipality has expressed its concern over this fraudulent activity, which involves fake appointment letters bearing the municipal logo and contact details.
According to the municipality, the scam involves the emailing of appointment letters to potential job seekers, falsely claiming to be from the municipal recruitment team. The letters are purportedly approved by a certain “Mr SG Khuzwayo,” who is said to be from the municipal Technical Services Department.
To preserve the integrity of the municipal recruitment process and prevent the exploitation of job applicants, the DRJSMLM has made it clear that no fees are required when applying for any advertised vacancies. “Under no circumstances will the municipality charge any recruitment or other fees for advertised vacancies. Municipal jobs are not for sale,” the municipality emphasised.
The municipality has also urged the public to remain vigilant and to be cautious of any suspicious job offers. “We strongly advise the public not to respond to this job scam, not to pay any requested fee, and to be wary of accepting job interviews for positions they have not applied for,” the municipality stated. It is important for applicants to follow the correct procedures when applying for a municipal job, as vacancies are only advertised through official media channels, the municipal website, and social media platforms. The municipality encourages anyone approached by scammers to report the incident to the anti-fraud and anti-corruption hotline at alertus@alert-us.co.za, the toll-free line at 0800 014 816, or the nearest police station. “We urge the public to alert the authorities about any suspicious activities related to DRJSMLM vacancies,” the statement concluded
