GA-MORWE – Over 100 community members from various villages in the Dr JS Moroka Municipality participated in a 5km fun walk held at Ga-Morwe Stadium by the Department of Arts and Culture as part of the Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience on December 7.

The event, led by Dr JS Moroka Municipality Mayor Nomsa Mtsweni, SAPS, and the Department of Health, was supported by various stakeholders.

Sinah Phahlane (32) from Majakaneng shared her experience of participating and making it to the finish line.

“This was indeed a fun walk. We walked and danced, created awareness, and had colours thrown at us. It was a joyous day, topped by aerobics. I had fun, and we got medals,” she said.

Mayor Mtsweni also participated in the walk and completed the 5km distance.

“We are saying people need to get off those couches and start walking because it does have health benefits,” she said.

The 2024 Mpumalanga Cultural Xperience, organised by the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR), took place from 28 November to 7 December.

The event was hosted across four local municipalities in the province under various themes: Comedy Xperience, Carnival Xperience, Kasi Xperience, Soul Session, Choral Xperience, Traditional Xperience, and the Marathon Xperience. The fun walk is said to have been the closing event of the experience
