MIDDELBURG – Eastdene Combined School in Middelburg celebrated a remarkable achievement on 20 January 2025, honouring the success of its 2024 matric class. The ceremony recognised the learners’ outstanding academic performance, as the school proudly reported a 100% pass rate, marking a 14.5% increase from the previous year, 2023.
The event, attended by notable figures including the Executive Mayor of Steve Tshwete Municipality, Mhlonishwa Masilela, and Municipal Youth Manager, Khanyisile Mlangeni, highlighted the school’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and dedication.
Principal Lalitha Walters shared that various motivational initiatives contributed to the students’ success, including one-on-one interviews, parent meetings, and pre-award services where top learners were recognised. She also acknowledged the impact of sponsorships that provided additional encouragement. In her speech, Walters urged the class of 2025 to continue striving for excellence, emphasising that with hard work, focus, and faith, success is achievable.
Municipal Youth Manager Khanyisile Mlangeni praised the awards ceremony as a vital event for motivating learners, noting the youth office’s role in supporting and advocating for young people. She encouraged the class of 2025 to aim high, citing the achievements of Gugu Libambo, the top performer from Mphanama Secondary School in Mpumalanga Province.
Mlangeni also expressed the municipality’s desire for Steve Tshwete Municipality to lead the Nkangala District in academic performance, inspiring future generations to follow in these footsteps.
The ceremony was a momentous occasion, celebrating both the hard work of the students and educators and setting a high standard for future classes.
