EMALAHLENI –In the heart of the small but vibrant township of Siyanqoba, a powerful cultural celebration unfolded on 28 June when local visionary and founder of Esgodlweni African Lifestyle, Baxolile Masemola, hosted the Hot Winter event, which drew an enthusiastic crowd.
Esgodlweni African Lifestyle is a centre established to uplift young and old individuals with a passion for arts.
The event featured an exhibition of locally crafted clothing items by Skhumbuzo Masango of Gadango Creationz and an impressive lineup of local performers such as crowd favourites Nelly “Bubble Bee” Mdlalose, Bongane “Mjanana” Mabena, Junior “Mjuice” Ntuli, the Esgodlweni Band, Thulane Masango, Dineo “Marley Girl” Mokoena, Nondumiso “Njunju” Mkhonto, and Masemola herself.
The stage came alive with energetic performances that left attendees inspired and entertained, showcasing the depth of talent within the community.
“This centre is open to everyone — young or old — who is talented or has the desire to explore arts, whether it’s singing, dancing, acting, or any other form of artistic expression,” said Baxolile. “We created Esgodlweni African Lifestyle to change lives and show South Africa that talent is not only found in big cities. There’s incredible potential in small townships like ours.”
Strategically located next to a school, the centre offers easy access for schoolchildren who are eager to develop and showcase their artistic talents. This accessibility, Baxolile explains, is crucial to building a culture of creativity and confidence in the youth.
One of the performers, Njunju, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity. “I’m really excited about this initiative. I’m a very talented individual, and this place is giving me a chance to do what I love most.”
Remarkably, Baxolile sponsored the Hot Winter event out of her own pocket, driven purely by her passion for music, art, and community development. However, she is now calling on the broader community of eMalahleni, local businesses, and potential sponsors to support the growth of this inspiring initiative.
“This is more than just a venue or an event — it’s a movement,” she said. “With the right support, we can transform lives and build a future where township talent is celebrated on the national stage.”
