WITBANK – Ezinabeni Extension 18 Rooftop Café was transformed into a boxing arena on August 03, 024, hosting an exciting event aimed at uniting the community and boosting the venue’s reputation.
From midday until late into the night, the atmosphere was electric as local boxers stepped into the ring for a series of two-round bouts. The first semi-final kicked off with the opening bell, where Billy and Mshoda exchanged a flurry of punches. Billy’s relentless attack proved too much for Mshoda, earning him a hard-fought victory and a place in the final.
In the next match, Mjukhethi and Thapelo engaged in a tactical battle, with each fighter carefully looking for openings. Mjukhethi’s calculated aggression eventually secured him a spot in the much-anticipated final against Billy.
Both Billy and Mjukhethi showed incredible determination in the ring, displaying a blend of skill and grit. Billy’s precise combinations hit their mark, securing him a stylish victory, the R 1000 prize, and the admiration of the spectators.
Though Mjukhethi had to settle for the runner-up prize of R300, his performance was nothing short of brave.
Speaking to the Highveld Chronicle, Bongani Mahlakwane (30), the organiser of the boxing event, described the match as a true spectacle. “From the start, Billy took control, delivering two significant knockdowns to his opponent Mjukhethi in the first round. Despite Mjukhethi’s impressive resilience and landing a few solid blows of his own, Billy’s superiority was clear. The stats showed Billy landed nine powerful punches and five jabs, while Mjukhethi only managed four punches in return. In the end, Billy’s relentless offence was too much to overcome, and he earned a well-deserved win,” he said.
As the event drew to a close, the publication spoke to one of the jubilant crowd members, who said, ‘The Extension 18 Rooftop Café definitely made its mark on local boxing history. A stage was provided for these fighters to showcase their talent and captivate the community. We would appreciate more events like this.”
