MIDDELBURG – The unveiling of a state-of-the-art community hall and childcare centre brought smiles to the community of Hlalamnandi, ward 10, in Middelburg. The amenities, worth R24 million, were handed over to the community on Monday, 29 April 2024, by the Department of Human Settlements as part of the delivery of integrated sustainable human settlements, ensuring liveable neighbourhoods where the young and old are presented with equal opportunities.
Cynthia Skosana told the paper that the facilities will also ease the burden of having to travel to Nasareth, about 6 kilometres away. “We will no longer have to go that far to hold meetings, weddings, funerals,” she said. “Our children will also go to a creche nearer than where they live, and it will save us a lot of money we used to spend on transport.”
The hall will accommodate 600 people and includes a ticket booth, fitted kitchenette, and three offices, including two boardrooms and a caretaker’s room. It also has three storage rooms, two change rooms, ablution facilities, and a stage. The childcare centre is equipped with ablution facilities, a kitchen, restrooms, and a play area, amongst others. The facility will be used for early childhood development purposes to nurture children and introduce them to a schooling system.
Steve Tshwete Mayor Mhlonishwa Masilela appealed for the protection of the facilities. “These facilities were established to benefit our communities, please work together to protect our infrastructure,” he said. “With the population continually growing, as a caring government, more infrastructures are built to assist residents.”
