Premier Mtshweni-Tsipane applauds job creation efforts yielding results

MPUMALANGA – Nearly 50,000 job opportunities have been created in Mpumalanga, as indicated by job creation data from StatsSA. The latest quarterly labour force survey, released on Tuesday, February 20, indicates that Mpumalanga recorded a net quarterly job gain of around 48,000 in the third quarter of 2023. According to the statistics, the finance industry recorded the highest job gains, followed by mining and private households. “This is the highest employment level recorded in Mpumalanga, reportedly outperforming other provinces in the October to December 2023 period,” stated the Mpumalanga government in a statement. When approached from the perspective of quarterly job creation on an industrial level, Mpumalanga ranked second highest or best in trade, mining, and private households, as well as third highest best in finance and utilities. Elated Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane stated that the data depicts hope for the province, adding that job creation would continue to be a top priority on the agenda of the Provincial Government. “Despite the challenging economic environment, measures we pronounced during the State of the Province Address (SOPA) last year to create jobs are bearing fruit, especially for the youth,” she said. “We remain resolute with economic interventions such as the Premier’s Youth Development Fund, as they will go a long way in addressing the high rate of unemployment in our province,” the Premier concluded. Mtshweni-Tsipane is scheduled to deliver the highly anticipated 2024 SOPA on Friday, March 1, 2024.
