eMalahleni – The Ikakaramba Foundation recently hosted the second edition of the Vusi Unembeza Soccer Tournament at Lynnville Stadium, eMalahleni on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
This event saw teams composed of young men and women, many of whom are recovering from drug addiction or are still battling to lead a drug-free life.
The foundation aims to motivate these individuals toward a future of sobriety through fitness and community support.
The importance of physical fitness in recovery cannot be overstated. Exercise not only improves physical health but also plays a crucial role in mental wellness, helping recovering addicts manage stress, boost their mood, and develop discipline.
By participating in the tournament, these individuals are building healthier habits, and the support from the community is key to keeping them on this path.
The soccer tournament featured four teams from the Kasi Football League: the Sotho Section team from Lynville, the Western team also from Lynville, London from Ackerville, and the Matrokisini team.
In addition to these, a team from Eznambeni Recovery Center, led by Bishop Jeremiah Zulu, also participated. These teams represented the commitment of various communities and recovery centers in promoting a drug-free lifestyle.
All participating teams were awarded medals, with trophies presented to further inspire the players.
Pastor Ray Mabena called for continued community support for these young men and women as they rebuild their lives. He emphasized the importance of standing by them as they work toward sobriety.
Significantly, business stakeholders have come forward to offer additional support.
They will sponsor eight individuals recovering from addiction, sending them to a rehabilitation center of their choice, with all expenses covered.
This gesture reinforces the belief that a united community can make a meaningful impact in combating substance abuse.
The event also received the support of the Soghutje Foundation, whose involvement further strengthened the reach and impact of the tournament. Their partnership reflects the shared mission of creating a healthier, drug-free future for the youth of eMalahleni.
In further efforts to foster a drug-free society, Ikakaramba Foundation will host a prayer session on October 19, 2024, at Lynville Park.
The session will focus on drug abuse prevention, support for people living with HIV, and addressing gender-based violence.
About 30 women’s groups, including Ibutho Lamanqgusa, will join the event to pray for a safer, healthier community.
The ongoing support from religious leaders, local businesses, and the community at large is proving to be a vital force in the fight against drug addiction.
Through such initiatives, eMalahleni is moving toward becoming a #DrugFreeGeneration.
