EMALAHLENI – The Mpumalanga Provincial Government Premier’s office has officially announced a significant development that is set to bring about more than 700 new job and business opportunities to the region.
This exciting initiative revolves around the construction of the Linah Malatjie Tertiary Hospital, a project that aims to not only enhance healthcare services but also honor the memory of the late Linah Malatjie, who tragically lost her life in a car accident on January 3, 2022. Billboards have since been installed around Emalahleni to signal that the hospital is not just a concept, but a project in the making.
While still in the planning and designing phase, this hospital holds the promise of not only providing essential medical care but also fostering economic growth through employment and entrepreneurial prospects.
Speaking with the Highveld Chronicle the Provincial Government spokesperson, George Mthethwa said, “The project is currently within the planning and design phases, with the completion of the construction documentation aimed for the end of June 2024.”
“The site is located on Erf 1 of the Tswelopele Junction Township, portion 121 of the farm zeekoewater 311 JS in eMalahleni behind the existing Highveld Mall development.” he explained.
He further said that the hospital is aimed being completed in six years. “ The anticipated construction period is 6 years, so with the planning and design processes that are set for completion in 2024, the anticipated completion date will depend on budget availability and the construction phasing approach is aimed for 2030.”
“Yes , jobs opportunities will be created. Taking past project experiences into consideration the project is anticipated to create more than 700 new job and business opportunities.” he added.
During the Mpumalanga SOPA , Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane stated that the Linah Malatjie Tertiary hospital is still at a designing and planning phase, with new 400 beds.
The majority of the people living in Emalahleni expressed their opinions on this progress, thus this is exciting news for them.
Mandisa Shekwa said, “ We welcome the announcement about the building the tertiary hospital named after our late Emalahleni mayor. I am so happy that jobs will be created for the unemployed.”
“ Having the new hospital will make a big change in Emalahleni, and many lives will be served.” She said.
Another resident from Vosman, Thabile Nkuna said, “ This will be a big break through for Emalahleni, this hospital will be very helpful that’s all I can say. We will just have to wait and see.”
