EMALAHLENI – Three suspects arrested in connection with the murder of David Masombuka, the Divisional Manager of Communication, Marketing and Branding at the Nkangala District Municipality, appeared at the Emalahleni Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 11, 2024 for their bail hearing.
The case, which has drawn widespread attention due to Masombuka’s prominent role in the municipality, was postponed until November 28, 2024, for further investigations.
The courtroom was filled with tension, additionally members of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) staged a protest outside demonstrating their opposition for bail.
The party maintains that individuals without proper documents should not be granted bail under any circumstances, a sentiment also echoed by some in the local community. “Imagine leaving your home to go to work, only for you not to return. All because of an outsider,” said Muriel Tshabangu.
“We do not feel safe in our own homes, let alone our own country.”
The case appears to have sparked significant controversy.
The Nkangala District Municipality has expressed its deep shock and sorrow at the loss of Masombuka who was hailed for his immense contributions to the district’s communication and marketing strategies.
Some community members feel as if the SAPS are not understanding the severity of the case and feel that they are taking it lightly.
Meanwhile, police investigations into the murder continue, and the community eagerly awaits further developments.
For now, all eyes are on the court, as the suspects remain in custody until their next appearance at the end of November.
The Patriotic Alliance has vowed to maintain pressure on the court system to ensure that justice is served, with plans to continue their protests in the lead-up to the next hearing.
