SIYABUSWA – The community of Siyabuswa in the Dr JS Moroka municipality was left shocked after the brutal discovery of the lifeless body of Mbali Mahlangu (31), who was found murdered in the comfort of her home.

Mbali, an employee at Shoprite at the time of her death, was described as bubbly by those close to her.

Wendy Masilela, one of those who attended the peaceful walk, said that she went to school with the deceased and that Mbali was a happy and bubbly person who took life as it came.

“It’s so sad what happened to her, and what is even more sad is that no one has been arrested. It’s so scary that such a thing can happen and nothing is being done. We hope the police find whoever did this because a person cannot be killed so brutally without any justice,” said Masilela.

Mbali Mahlangu was found murdered in her locked room in Siyabuswa on Sunday evening, February 2, 2025.

Siyabuswa residents showed solidarity in support of the family of the slain Mbali Mahlangu with a peaceful walk yesterday, from Siyabuswa Mall to her home.

“According to information, the victim was last seen on Saturday evening, February 1, 2025, when she went to sleep in her back room,” police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said.

“The family became suspicious when they returned from church in the afternoon and her room was still closed and locked. The family decided to use a spare key to open the room. To their surprise, there was a pool of blood, and the victim was lying down half-naked, only wearing a T-shirt and facing upwards.”

“During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the victim had multiple visible injuries on her body. It is believed that she may have been stabbed with a sharp object,” Ndubane added.

No arrests have been made, but police are “working around the clock” to bring the perpetrators to book, Ndubane said.

Anyone with further information regarding the incident can contact Detective Constable Briggette Mashego on 068 327 8168.

The ANC in Mpumalanga issued a statement condemning the act, saying that it is imperative for the justice system to take action against those who commit acts of gender-based violence.

Mbali will be laid to rest on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Siyabuswa B. The service will start at 6-8 AM, after which the motorcade will proceed to Mogononong Cemetery.
