– Miss Mpumalanga 2021 is finally on us, and this time the auditions are online to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols.
The popular provincial beauty pageant reportedly attracts more than 3 000 guests and this year, it will be celebrating its 11th anniversary. The organising company of this glitzy event, Mzimari Productions, invited contestants to send a one-minute introductory video clip via WhatsApp to 081-742-2276.
“After sending the video clip, an automated message will be sent to you with the entry form. The message will prompt you to follow the instructions on the link,” Gugu Nyarenda, CEO of Mzimari Productions, said.
According to Nyarenda, entry opened on Monday March 15, and will close on March 31. Nyarenda believes that this year’s crowning of Miss Mpumalanga will not only be a success, but historic, too, as they are turning 11.
The 10th Miss Mpumalanga had to be postponed last year in response to the declaration of Covid-19 as a national disaster, and the country had to be locked down. It was later staged in October 2020. “It’s a national disaster that not only affects South Africa, but the world as a whole. As Mzimari Productions, working hand in hand with provincial government in developing girls, we’ll ensure that we adhere to all prescripts in tackling Covid-19 headon, side by side with the entire community,” Nyarenda had said then.
She said there will be more exciting changes added to this year’s Miss Mpumalanga that will make the audience yearn for more as the province’s brains and beauties strut their stuff on stage. The reigning Miss Mpumalanga 2020, Nontokozo Ngwenya, said being the provincial ambassador during Covid-19 has made her stronger and wiser. “I hope and pray the next beauty queen will be equal to the task and continue the fight against Covid-19 and gender-based violence,” she said.
