MPUMALANGA – Members of executive council (MECs) of the Mpumalanga provincial government had their roles and responsibilities clearly defined in preparing them to better serve Mpumalanga residents in the 7th administration of governance.
The members were since sworn in on 14 June during the first sitting of the legislature.
They completed a two-day induction programme held on July 3 and 4, 2024.
The programme focused on improving their skills and professionalism in public service, clarified roles and responsibilities to ensure effective governance.
Premier Mandla Ndlovu emphasised the significance of the induction in empowering the Executive to serve all communities, particularly the underserved. “The induction is crucial to clarify roles and responsibilities of each member, and to work as a collective to deliver the basic services that communities are yearning for,” he said.
The programme also included key presentations by chapter 9 institutions such as the office of the Auditor General (AG) and the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The presentations looked at the critical aspects including legislative requirements for financial management, proper recruitment processes and the importance of ethical conduct to foster public trust and to achieve clean audit results.
“The guidelines align closely with our government’s commitment to delivering essential services within the boundaries of sound financial and legislative frameworks,” Premier Ndlovu stated. “We are resolute in achieving clean audits through responsible management of public funds.”
On the last day of the induction, the Premier highlighted government’s obligation to transparent clear communication with the public.
He further urged the executive to interact closely with communication structures to communicate government achievements through media platforms and direct public engagements.
“Our administration continues to make significant strides in improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other essential services,” he said. “It’s imperative that these achievements are communicated thoroughly to ensure transparency and build trust with the public.”
