EMALAHLENI – In a chilling turn of events, the body of Lazarus Motsitsi, a 38-year-old man suffering from a mental disorder, was discovered decapitated in a bush near the road between Bethal and Kriel on Tuesday.
Motsitsi had been reported missing on December 28, sparking a frantic search that tragically ended with the gruesome discovery of his headless remains.
The circumstances surrounding his death have left the community shocked and authorities scrambling to unravel the mystery behind this heinous crime.
Speaking with the Highveld Chronicle, Mokoena Mapaseka, a sister to the deceased said, “We are very hurt as a family because we were hoping to find him alive. This is very painful because his body was found but his head has been cut off and we are still in shocked with trauma, on how we have found him.”
“He was born mentally disturbed but he loved people and he was not a trouble person. We did go to identify the body and took the DNA. We are still waiting for the results but we do believe that is one of our own because of the clothes he was wearing.” she expressed.
She further said that they want justice to be served for Motsitsi.
“His body was already decomposed. His head was cut off and dump about 5 kilometres next to his body. We don’t understand on how would people kill him in this manner. All we want is justice to be served for him.”
Bethal police sergeant, Thomas Mogadime said, “No attests has been made so far. We are still looking for the suspects. As police we are still busy with the investigation and we don’t know what is the motive behind the killing of the victim.”
