WATERVAL – The new offices of the Ndzundza Mabusa Traditional Council, based in Waterval B, were officially opened and handed over on Friday, March 28, 2025.

The opening took place concurrently with the heritage celebrations. Among the dignitaries present was the Chairperson of the Mpumalanga House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders, Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena, as well as representatives from the Ndzundza Mabhoko Kingdom.

In her welcoming remarks, Acting Executive Mayor Sophy Legong expressed gratitude to the Department of COGHSTA for the construction of the state-of-the-art traditional council offices. She also encouraged communities to collaborate with traditional leaders in addressing social ills, starting with the fight against gender based violence and feticide( GBV+F).

The ceremony was also graced by actress, model, and businesswoman Lethabo Mmekwa, who was accompanied by KB from Big Brother Mzansi. She encouraged learners to return to their roots and respect culture and tradition.

The two pledged to sign up five models at their agencies, free of charge, as part of their efforts to give back to their communities.

One of the most interesting parts of the programme was “Ukuvuselela Isimilo neskhethu” by Professor Kabini and Mdumiseni Ntuli. They also gave attendees an opportunity to ask questions about conducting cultural ceremonies and activities.

Kgoshi Mokoena highlighted the significance of cultural events in strengthening relations between government and traditional leadership. He further expressed his gratitude for the infrastructure and resources provided for the traditional leaders.

In his remarks, Ikosi Mahlangu urged the government to respect and observe cultural activities while working together with traditional leadership. He thanked the new offices and the attendees for honouring the event. Ikosi Mahlangu also expressed his appreciation for the new state-of-the-art offices, as they would assist in improving service delivery to the community.

Grade 12 learners formed part of the event and were provided with information on bursaries, application requirements, deadlines, online portals, and more through the career expo.

The event was marked by speeches, cultural performances, and a tour of the new offices.
