MIDDELBURG– Nkangala District Municipality convened a joint sitting of the District Development Model (DDM) Council and the Integrated Development Plan (IDP)/Performance Management System (PMS) on March 25, 2025, at the Nkangala District Municipality Council Chamber.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders to address pressing challenges affecting the district, including rising unemployment, the increasing cost of living, and poverty.
During his address, Nkangala District Executive Mayor, Cllr. Thomas Ngwenya, emphasized the urgency of implementing resolutions that directly impact community development. He highlighted the importance of funding projects such as Rust De Venter, which aims to provide essential services like water to the residents of Dr. J.S. Moroka Local Municipality.
Furthermore, Ngwenya stressed the need for municipalities like Emakhazeni and Victor Khanye to maintain eligibility for Eskom’s debt relief program, ensuring continued service delivery.
To achieve these objectives, he outlined key priorities for the DDM Council:
- Unified Collaboration – Strengthening partnerships with stakeholders to drive social and economic growth.
- Effective Implementation – Ensuring that resolutions are not only adopted but also funded and executed efficiently.
- Accessible Services – Enhancing service delivery to ensure all district residents receive essential services without barriers.
The session underscored the district’s commitment to tackling socio-economic challenges and fostering sustainable development through coordinated governance and strategic planning.
