DELMAS – A meeting at Mdumiseni Primary School on Sunday, March 2, 2025, turned chaotic as parents rejected the School Governing Body’s (SGB) decision to appoint a new headmaster.
The SGB announced the newly elected principal, replacing acting principal Mrs Mahamba. The announcement was enough to turn the meeting, intended to discuss various day-to-day operations of the school, haywire.
Parents expressed their outrage and frustration, demanding that Mrs Mahamba be appointed as the new principal.
“We are happy with Mrs Mahamba,” said one parent, Nomasonto Masuku. “She has done an excellent job since 2022, and we don’t see why she should be replaced.”
Jabulani Mashego, one of the parents, echoed the same sentiments, saying Mrs Mahamba was exactly what the school needed. “We want Mrs Mahamba to continue as the principal. We don’t want the new principal,” he said.
Despite the SGB’s assurance that proper processes were followed, including interviews, the parents maintained their stance on Mrs Mahamba, citing her excellent performance, dedication, and commitment to the school.
“We followed the proper procedures in appointing the new principal,” explained Masilela Mbelenkwa, former SGB chairperson and current treasurer. “We had to conduct interviews, which were fair and transparent, and the new principal emerged as the top candidate. We are confident that the new principal has the qualifications and expertise to lead the school effectively, and we urge parents not to worry.”
The situation remains tense at the school, with parents and the SGB at odds over the future leadership of the institution.
As the standoff continues, parents are urging the SGB to reconsider their decision.
Only time will tell if the SGB will bow to pressure and reverse their decision.
