– Phola SAPS advocate against bullying in schools and teach them about their rights.
The police visited Sibongindawo Primary School to talk about anti-bullying and children’s rights. SAPS together with community policing forum (CPF) and foundation for victims of crime (FOVOC) recently visited the school.
Sergeant Petros Ntuli, the communications official at the station shares that main purpose of the visit was to educate the learners about bullying, crime, children’s rights and the different types of abuse.
He shared that learners were educated by Joseph Ntimba a member of the CPF. “He encouraged the learners to report any form of abuse and bullying, and Nomsa Liau from Victim Friendly Support emphasized the importance of children’s rights,” said Ntuli.
He continued to add that the event was a huge success.
FOVOC is a non-profit organization that focuses on supporting and empowering victims of crime. Social workers of the organization shared insights on GBV, crime prevention and the services they offer for victims and how teachers can also help create a safe space for the learners to be open about being bullied.
Learners were advised to report any bullying or abuse to their teachers and community members they trust.
FOVOC has shelters in Witbank and Phola, and if you know of someone who might be a victim of abuse, you can visit one of their shelters or call them on 013 656 0724.
