PHOLA – Waya-Waya Day Care Centre received a generous donation aimed at improving the education of young children. The donation, handed over on July 24, 2024 in the Makause section, included movable toilets, crayons, and colouring books, courtesy of Sanitech. Waya-Waya was founded two years ago by Lucas “Chips” Motswene to create a nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and break free from the cycle of poverty. Motswene told the Highveld Chronicle that no child should be left behind due to their parents’ social status. “This crèche is not funded by the municipality or any local stakeholders in Phola, yet we provide breakfast and lunch for free for 150 learners,” he said. “We are very grateful to Samaritans like Sanitech for remembering us. We only had one toilet to cater for almost 200 people, including aftercare students.” He further stated that the day care centre offers non-fee early childhood learning and now fully complies with hygiene and health standards. The centre provides unique services benefiting less privileged children from destitute families. “Their parents cannot afford normal day care fees,” he explained. “It takes collaborative efforts to uplift struggling communities, making a significant and inspiring impact.” The centre also includes aftercare services for local kids needing assistance with school assignments, access to free Wi-Fi for research purposes, a library, and printing and scanning facilities. Sanitech supervisor Kenneth Mokwana explained their decision to assist Waya-Waya. “The little we have is the best we can do, as we are still growing. One day, we will return with more,” he said. “I would also like to thank our Sanitech team for the wonderful job we have done so far.”
