The Delmas South African Police Service (SAPS) hosted a pre-Easter prayer for safer roads and hope for the end to domestic violence and drug abuse in the Victor Khanye community.
It is no secret that during the Easter holidays, many deadly accidents occur on the R42 and N12 roads across Victor Khanye Local Municipality. In addition, drug abuse, the violence against women and children have caused unrest in the VKLM society and South Africa at large to a point where the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa declared gender-based violence a pandemic in the previous year.
The prayer was hosted in collaboration with the South African First Responder Chaplain (SAFREC), the District Department of Social Development, the Department of Health, the Traffic department and Victor Khanye Local Municipality through the support of the Chief Whip Sponono Mahlangu at the Holy Ethiopian Methodist Church of Africa in Botleng township on 25 March.
Representing the Delmas SAPS Constable Desiree Masuku, Pastor Nozipho Magqaza and Constable Mandla Sikaza all highlighted that besides all efforts prayer is a critical element that should not be eliminated in the fight against societal battles.
The prayer event started with powerful messages from Reverend Solly Ngwenya and Commander Seth Twala from the Ekurhuleni Chaplaincy.
Furthermore, the social worker Gloria Ngomane educated the attendees about the process of rehabilitation for recovering drug addicts and emphasised that it is critical for families to give full support to their recovering family members as the journey to recovery is challenging, particularly with relapsing episodes.
Other Speakers at the Prayer event include Pastor German Ngwenya, Dikeledi Mathe from the Department of Health, Paul Jiyane and Sindi Mkhwebane both from the Traffic Department respectively.
Pastor Nomthandazo Mbulayi further highlighted social cohesion and doing away with disregarding each other as some of the ways a society can collectively be able to defeat the social ills.
Closing off the prayer session Mbulayi quoted the book of 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land”.
