Ndlovu Dreams of 0% Young Graduates’ Unemployment Rate, Zero Poverty Rate and 2.1 Million People Working
MPUMALANGA – Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu has extended an open invitation to all Mpumalanga citizens to adopt what he calls a “business unusual” stance to realise his ambitious dream for the province.
Premier Ndlovu was addressing the opening of the 7th Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature on Wednesday morning, July 31, 2024.
Ndlovu, who was sworn in on June 18, 2024, stated at the end of his speech that his dream, among others, is for the province to reach its 2030 targets: an average economic growth of 5%, an unemployment rate of 5%, 2.1 million people working, a 0% young graduates’ unemployment rate, and a zero rise in the poverty rate.
“It will be unforgivable to fail our people and it will be a huge disappointment to the masses. The only route for us to take to avoid failing our people is for all of us to adopt the ‘business unusual’ stance,” he said.
He invited everyone to work tirelessly and defend the dream. “Yes, to defend our dream,” he said. “I understand that my dream is your dream. Let’s defend it.”
“I want all households to have access to basic services, all households to have access to shelter, and our law enforcers to arrest without fear,” he added.
“That a girl child from e-Pienaar should be able to go to school with no fear and come back home safely. To build a tech-savvy generation all over the province. That every girl child from rural areas must have access to sanitary towels, and boy children to own dignity bags. That the four Jet patcher teams need to work on our roads daily. Shortening response time for ambulances. Our community healthcare centres should be open and operate 24 hours. Complete eradication of pit latrine toilets in all our schools.”
He further emphasised that to realise the dream, people have to recognise that it cannot be business as usual, but must be business unusual. “A road less travelled.”
