EMALAHLENI — Seriti Power handed over a waste compactor truck and a waste tanker to the eMalahleni Local Municipality on 27 June 2025. This handover– which is part of Seriti’s commitments made in its Social Labour Plan– has been deemed as a momentous stride towards improved local service delivery.
The handover took place at the Klarinet Extension 3 Community Hall, where local leaders, stakeholders and community members gathered in celebration. This development signifies a deepening partnership between public and private sectors to uplift and empower communities within the region.
“We thank Seriti for continuing to invest in the well-being of our communities,” said the Executive Mayor Vusi Nhlapho. “We call on all stakeholders within and around eMalahleni to collaborate with the Municipality in strengthening and accelerating service delivery.”
The new vehicles are expected to boost municipal operations significantly, particularly in waste management and water provision.
On the same day, Ikeja, which provides wireless network infrastructure, installed free WiFi infrastructure at Coronation Secondary School in Klarinet. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by enhancing learners’ access to online educational resources and creating a more digitally inclusive environment for students.
Ward councillors expressed their support and excitement for the developments. Ward 15 councillor Nombuso Mokwana extended gratitude to Seriti and Ikeja, while the ward 12 councillor Lucky Tolo joined community members in joyful celebration, acknowledging the tangible improvements these projects will bring to the everyday life of the community.
Klarinet residents embraced the initiatives with enthusiasm, viewing them as important steps toward a more sustainable, connected and empowered future.
“As a lifelong resident of Klarinet, I’m truly inspired by what we witnessed on Friday. Seeing our leaders, private partners like Seriti and Ikeja, and the community coming together for the future of our community,” said Sophie Mthombeni. “The free WiFi at Coronation Secondary is a game-changer for our kids. I’m proud to be part of a community that’s moving forward.”
