Phola– The SoGutjhe women from the community of Phola hosted their 4th annual Women’s Day celebration at Makause Combined School Hall, where three women were awarded with equipment to boost their businesses.
The gathering held on 09 August highlighted women’s strength and resilience as well as the collective efforts required to overcome some of the social ills that continue to plague women.
Thando Maseko, businesswoman and founder of Inayo Mining, said: “I’ve faced many challenges along the way, but I’ve learned that resilience is key. “The journey to success isn’t easy, but it’s possible when you believe in yourself and take bold steps.”
Maseko’s message to the women present was clear: embrace your challenges as opportunities for growth. “We have the power within us to shape our own destinies,” she said, urging the audience to actively pursue their goals and leverage every available resource to achieve both economic independence and personal development.
The event also featured a motivational segment, where several women were rewarded with prizes, meant to encourage entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.
When participants were reserving their seats to attend the event, one of the questions asked if they have a business and its nature and what equipment they needed to grow the business.
The second phase required submission of short videos showcasing their work and their business space, so the judges can see exactly what they do and assess their needs.
Among the winners was Kharhizile Mahlangu who was awarded with baking equipment to help her expand her baking business.
“I’m very grateful to win this,” said a teary-eyed Mahlangu. “I’ve been baking cookies using a mini oven, but now, with this big equipment, my business will grow.”
Her voice quivered as she spoke, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the opportunity. “For me, this isn’t just about the prize. It’s about knowing that I have support from my community, and that means the world to me. I’m now one step closer to making my business a success.”
Another winner was Nondumiso Mgabi, a self-taught make-up-artist. “I am deeply grateful for receiving this full set of makeup products, a professional chair, and a mirror. This gift means more than just equipment, it is a step toward building my own future and turning my passion into a profession. I have learned that our hands hold the power to create, to serve, and to bring something to the table without relying solely on being employed by someone else. This is a blessing that reminds me that dedication and faith can open unexpected doors.”
The event concluded with a heartfelt speech from Ndlonkhulu Thulusile Mahlangu from Royal House.
“We have shown today that together, we can achieve anything,” said Mahlangu. “Our women are the backbone of this community, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have the support, opportunities, and resources to succeed.”
